Gautam Gambhir is making his debut in the red-ball cricket as a coach after sitting at the helm of the Indian cricket. The first match of the India vs Bangladesh Test series is underway at the M Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
The Team Belongs to Rohit Sharma, Says Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir talked to Jio Cinema ahead of the match. He said that the team belongs to Rohit Sharma, who is the captain and the decision-maker on the field.
“The team belongs to the captain (Rohit Sharma) because he is the decision-maker on the field. Rohit’s respect and leadership are crucial. He is a great guy, and players respect him in the dressing room. I shared a good relationship with him when we were playing. I think it continues in the same fashion,” he said on Jio Cinema.
Gambhir also spoke about the qualities of Virat, Rohit, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Gambhir also mentioned Rohit’s failed start as a cricketer and was able to come back after getting more chances. He also mentioned the contributions of Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah to Indian cricket. Gambhir believes that the young guns of Indian cricket can learn from these senior players.
“Rohit was given chances despite failing to perform, and now he is one of the best players. Virat transformed the Indian cricket. Ashwin is the best spinner in the world, and Bumrah has climbed to the top. Their experience will help the young players.”
After having a horrible start on the first day of the Test, India bounced back, thanks to the century of R. Ashwin (102*), Fifties by Ravindra Jadeja (86*), and Yashaswi Jaiswal (56). Despite losing 3 early wickets of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubhman Gill before reaching 40, India climbed up at the end of day 1 by finishing at 339.
