Ravichandran Ashwin, a member of Team India, believes that Aiden Markram, the captain of Sunrisers Eastern Cape, will also be appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. This is due to the fact that the South African Twenty20 team and the IPL franchise have the same owners.
Markram was kept on the team by SRH before the 2023 IPL auction. With Kane Williamson being let go due to his disappointing performance in the 2022 season, Hyderabad will have a fresh leader for the coming IPL tournament.
Markram was incredibly impressive as he steered Sunrisers Eastern Cape to success in the first SA20. The batting all-rounder scored 366 runs in 12 matches with an average of 33.27 and a strike rate of 127.97. His remarkable 100 off 58 balls in the second semi-final against Joburg Super Kings sealed their triumph.
The 28-year-old also performed impressively with the ball, taking 11 wickets with his off-spin at an average of 14.63 and an economy rate of 6.19. Ashwin highly praised Markram’s overall performance, making a bold statement on his YouTube channel, saying:
“Aiden Markram proved why he is a star. He had to have a good season and that is why Sunrisers had backed him. I have no doubt Aiden Markram will be the captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad as well in the IPL. It was an extraordinary SA20 season for him. He scored runs and picked up wickets as well.”
Ashwin commented that SRH had chosen a strong team for the IPL 2023 auction, which should serve them well in the upcoming games. He said,
“I feel they picked a good team at the IPL auction as well, keeping the future in mind. So, I think they will start getting results very soon. So, well done. Looking forward to that.”
