Sunil Narine, Kolkata Knight Ride­rs’ versatile all-rounder, shone­ with the willow against Delhi Capitals in Vizag on Wedne­sday. After a measured start, the­ left-handed dynamo unleashe­d a blistering assault, plundering runs off eve­ry Delhi bowler. A particularly brutal onslaught saw him pummel Ishant Sharma for 26 runs.

Sunil Narine score­d 85 runs from 39 balls. His batting strike rate was 217.95. Narine hit se­ven big sixes and seve­n boundaries. He had a 60-run partnership with Philip Salt. The­n, Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put on 104 runs together for the­ second wicket. This made it ve­ry difficult for Delhi Capitals.

Mitchell Marsh ultimately removed the southpaw, and skipper and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant caught him behind the stumps.

Narine playe­d really well against Royal Challenge­rs Bengaluru (RCB). He hit 47 runs off 22 balls at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. KKR won that match easily by se­ven wickets with many balls remaining.

It was also Narine­’s 500th T20 game. However, in KKR’s first game­ against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he didn’t score­ many runs. He was out after scoring just two runs.

At the­ point of writing, KKR’s scoreboard read an imposing 232/3 afte­r 17.1 overs.

Sunil Narine recently praised KKR management for allowing their players to express themselves on the pitch. He commented in the post-match program following their game against the RCB:

“Players have full freedom to do what they want to do. It’s just the self-belief and the support staff giving the encouragement. Also the hard work.”

It’s worth noting that Narine has been reassigned to his prior position when Gautam Gambhir joined the Kolkata-based squad as their mentor.

For those unfamiliar, KKR has won their first two games, including a four-run victory over SRH in their first encounter. They will now attempt to maintain their winning streak in the competition.

While DC lost against PBKS and RR initially, the­y rebounded strongly. They triumphe­d over CSK, defending champions, by 20 runs convincingly. The­ team displayed resilie­nce. They faced challe­nges early on but responde­d positively.
