Ex-leader Sourav Ganguly thinks Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should join the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. This event is in the United States and West Indies, from June 1 until June 29. He also supports Rohit as the team leader for this ICC event.
Both Rohit and Kohli are back in the T20I squad. They’re set to play a three-match series against Afghanistan. Their last T20 for India was during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final. It was against England.
The cricket world buzzed with rumors. Were Rohit and Kohli in for the T20I series against Afghanistan? Would they join the 2024 T20 World Cup squad? News hinted that they wanted in. Missing players like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav gave their case a boost.
Sourav Ganguly chimed in, thinking both Rohit and Kohli deserved spots on India’s 2024 World Cup team.
“Rohit should be the captain in the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player,” he was quoted as saying in an India Today report.

In response to a question concerning the prominent players rejoining the Indian T20 squad following a protracted hiatus, he said:
“Nothing will happen.”

The former captain of India also conveyed his satisfaction with the way the squad performed during the just finished South Africa trip.

“India is a great team. If they lose one game, then people say a lot of things. But look at how they played, they won the ODI series, a 1-1 in T20Is and in the Tests.”

KL Rahul, another experienced hitter, is not included in the T20I return that Rohit and Kohli have been accorded for the series against Afghanistan.
Ishan Kishan has also been excluded, and the selectors have chosen Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma as their two keeping alternatives.
Shivam Dube replaces Pandya in the T20I roster, with Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar serving as the team’s three pacers.
