On January 10, 2023, a brand-new franchise league called SAT20 officially began. Interestingly, all the franchise T20 clubs in SAT20 are owned by the same individuals who own teams in the Indian T20 League. There are six teams in the SAT20 League: the Paarl Royals, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Durban’s Super Giants, the MI Cape Town, the Pretoria Capitals, and the Johannesburg Super Kings.
We will look at the SAT20 League players who earned more than they did in the lucrative Indian T20 league.
1. TRISTAN STUBBS
The youthful wicketkeeper-batsman has played 13 T20Is since debuting against India. Stubbs scored 173 runs in nine innings in 13 matches, including a 72-run half-century. The 22-year-old bid the most for the SAT20 2023, and Sunrisers Eastern spent a record 9.2 million Rands (INR 4.41 crores). In the Indian T20 League, the wicketkeeper-batsman was unsold at the auction. Therefore Mumbai spent only INR 20 Lakh to sign him as a substitute, and Mumbai Indians signed him for the same fee.
2. DWAINE PRETORIUS
The 33-year-old seem all-rounder debuted with Chennai last year in the Indian T20 League. The Chennai Super Kings paid INR 50 Lakh to buy Pretorius in the super auction. Alternatively, Durban’s Super Giants spent 4.1 million Rands (INR 1.97 crores) during the SAT20’s maiden auction to sign Pretorius to their team. During the SAT20 auction, his offer was the tenth most costly.
3. LUNGI NGIDI
Durban’s South African bowling sensation has often shown his mettle on the international stage. The transfer was sealed with 3.4 million Rands (INR 1.63 crores) spent by the Paarl Royals for the services of the 29-year-old fast bowler in the SAT20. The teams in the Indian T20 League didn’t seem very enthusiastic about signing Ngidi, and Delhi spent INR 50 Lakhs to sign him.
4. ODEAN SMITH
The Jamaican all-rounder was also among the attractions of the SAT20 auction. MI Cape Town signed Odean Smith for 1.7 million Rands (INR 81.54 lakhs). Regarding his earnings in the Indian T20 league, Smith had a substantial deal at first. In the mini-auction, Gujarat signed him for the base price of INR 50 Lakh.
5. DONOVAN FERREIRA
The Pretoria-born youngster has yet to represent South Africa. However, his T20 performance has impressed everybody. The 24-year-old has 539 runs, averaging 41.46 in 21 innings in 26 matches, including two half-centuries. The Johannesburg Super Kings spent 5.5 million Rands (INR 2.64 crore) for Donovan Ferreira at the SAT20 auction.
