Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT), arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday, March 18, in preparation for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The incumbent Orange Cap holder was named the franchise’s captain when Hardik Pandya left for the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the off-season.
Shubman Gill joined India’s Test team against England. At first, he had trouble batting third. But he scored 452 runs in nine innings. That was second-best after Jaiswal. India won the home series 4-1. Gill had a big impact despite early struggles. Though he didn’t top the run-scoring charts, Gill proved his worth.
He has scored substantially after joining the Gujarat Titans from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before of the 2022 IPL season. Gill scored 890 runs in 17 innings in the 2023 season, including three hundreds, as GT finished second.
The GT coaching staff and players will anxiously await feedback from their new captain once he has joined the setup.

GT head coach Ashish Nehra has played a significant part in the franchise’s early success, with one of the main reasons being his rapport with former captain Hardik Pandya.
As Shubman Gill prepares for his first significant task as captain, the franchise will have to start from scratch to develop a cohesive dynamic.
“We as a franchise, as a support staff, are really excited to help him grow as a person more than as a captain. If he grows as a person, then he will definitely be a better captain going forward.”

Shubman Gill has capable and experienced leadership candidates in Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan for guidance, and it will be up to him to leverage the resources at his disposal in order to sustain the high standards that GT has established in such a short period of time.
