Shubman Gill, the team’s opening batsman, has begun batting drills in the nets in preparation for the tense match against Pakistan in Ahmedabad. He traveled from Chennai, where he was recuperating from dengue disease, to the Gujarati capital city on Wednesday.
Gill missed India’s opening World Cup games against Australia and Afghanistan for the same reason. Team India started out well in the major competition by winning both of its games. Gill hasn’t been playing, thus Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma have been opening the batting.
Shubman Gill is eager to return to the Indian team after having treatment in a hospital and relaxing in Chennai. He began his hitting practice in Ahmedabad, which will host the match against Pakistan on Saturday (October 14), the first step toward his goal.
Gill’s availability for the match will be known in the coming days.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra recently stated that Shubman Gill may not play against Pakistan on Saturday, despite the fact that he is in Ahmedabad and close to being match-fit. He was concerned that the team management would not hurry him back into the side because dengue illness is known to be harmful to the body.
Aakash Chopra stated in a video on his YouTube channel:
“Shubman Gill has traveled to Ahmedabad even though you and I don’t know the platelet count. Since he is in Ahmedabad, we are hoping that he is getting close to becoming fit. I am hoping but I don’t think he will play the Pakistan match. I feel he will still take rest because dengue is a bit of an issue.”
“It takes time to recover and come back. So he might not be available for this match. The good news is that he is no longer in hospital and is traveling as well. So things are looking a little better. If he had played in Ahmedabad, it would have been enjoyable because Gill likes Ahmedabad a lot.”
