According to sources, Indian opener Shubman Gill has been released from the hospital in Chennai where he was taken after his platelet count plummeted.
While he is expected to miss India’s 2023 World Cup opener against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, his participation in the main game against Pakistan on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is also in doubt.
According to PTI, Shubman Gill was taken to the well-known multi-care specialty hospital ‘Kauvery’. Rizwan, the Indian team doctor, kept track of his improvement. Under the condition of anonymity, a BCCI insider informed PTI:
Earlier, an India Today article shared an update on the Men in Blue opener, stating that the 24-year-old cricketer’s platelet count dipped before India travelled out to Delhi for their next World Cup game against Afghanistan.
Shubman Gill was unable to play in India’s first game against Australia on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai owing to sickness. The Board of Control for Cricket in India gave a health update on Gill on Monday, confirming that the batter will not go to Delhi but will instead be under the care of the medical staff.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023.
Ahead of India’s World Cup opener against Australia, captain Rohit Sharma expressed his primary concern for the batter’s recovery from illness rather than contemplating his availability for the game.
