Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans (GT) highlighted his six off “childhood friend” Abhishek Sharma during the IPL 2023 match against SRH as the most pleasant shot of his innings.
GT defeated SRH by 34 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to secure a top-two finish in the points standings. Gujarat batted first and posted a total of 188/9 with Gill (101 off 58) scoring his first IPL century. Hyderabad scored 154/9 in 20 overs while chasing.
Shubman Gill hit 13 fours throughout his excellent knock and the six he smashed off Abhishek in 12th over was the shot that made him the most delighted.
He said at the post-match conference:
“The most satisfying one [stroke] was probably the six off Abhishek [Sharma] because we are childhood friends. I think I told him before the match that, ‘if you bowl to me, I’m going to hit you for six’. That was most pleasing for me.”
Shubman Gill went on to say that getting a century against Hyderabad was extra meaningful since his IPL debut was against the same team. He said:
“It’s quite pleasing. I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, I feel like it [life] has come a full circle. It feels great to get my first IPL hundred. Hopefully, I’ll get some more of those. Hopefully, in this season as well.”
Gill was part of a 147-run stand with Sai Sudharsan (47) during his knock.

Shubman Gill came close to a century (94 off 51) in the last IPL match against the Lucknow Super Giants . He remarked that personal milestones are insignificant to him since he is focused on playing the bowlers and the scenario.
“It’s all about the bowlers and situation that you are playing. I am not the person who dwells too much on my last innings. Doesn’t matter even if I scored a hundred or a fifty. It’s more about what I need to do in this situation, in this moment right now.”
Gill has 576 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 146.19, with 1 century and 4 half centuries.
