Post the 2-match Test series in Bangladesh in December last year, Shreyas Iyer had an injury in his lower back for which he was given treatment at the NCA. He was initially expected to venture from Bengaluru to Nagpur and join the India squad for their preliminary camp for the Border Gavaskar Trophy beginning on February 2. However, given the present condition of his back injury, BCCI has decided to continue his rehabilitation as a precautionary step to ensure his future performance.
Iyer’s back injury is expected to take two more weeks to heal properly. Till the time he is not fit to play cricket. Along with Shubman Gill and KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer was also one of the potential batters for the middle order batting who could open with Rohit Sharma. Shreyas Iyer has played seven test matches for India to date. He has an average of 56.72 and a strike rate of 65 which is considered a pretty good strike rate for Test matches. He is also one of the most reliable red ball batters and has a score tally of 624 runs since his first Test match in 2021 at Kanpur.
The BCCI selection committee has selected a 16 players squad for Border Gavaskar Trophy. Indian Cricket Team is all set for the Test series against Australia starting from February 2 at Nagpur. It is expected that Indian all rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be seen playing in the test series as he has cleared his fitness after playing in the Ranji trophy tournament for Saurashtra in Chennai. He was last seen playing in a test match last year against England, after which he had to undergo a knee surgery, due to which he could not play in the T20 World Cup.
