Shreyas Iyer celebrated his 29th birthday on Wednesday, December 6, by cutting a cake ahead of the impending India tour of South Africa.
Shreyas Iyer was seen slicing a cake in an Instagram video. When one of his friends asked him to make a wish, he also gave thanks for his accomplishments.
The past two Twenty20 Internationals Shreyas Iyer played at home against Australia. In the fifth and final Twenty20 international, the right-handed batsman hammered 53 runs off only 37 balls, smashing five boundaries and two sixes. India completed the series 4-1 with a six-run victory in the match.
Meanwhile, Iyer has been named to India’s teams for three T20Is, as many ODIs, and two Tests in South Africa. The trip begins on December 10 in Durban with the T20Is.
The right-handed hitter has only appeared in six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in South Africa, scoring 102 runs in five innings at an average of 20.40. He plans to boost his numbers in the African country.
“High time the world starts talking about his strengths” – Mohammad Kaif on Shreyas Iyer
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently praised Shreyas Iyer for his match-winning performance in the fifth and final Twenty20 International against Australia, following his ODI World Cup exploits.
Kaif posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):
Iyer looked fantastic with the bat in the 2023 ODI World Cup. In 11 One-Day Internationals, the middle-order hitter scored 530 runs at an average of 66.25, including two centuries and three fifties.
Iyer, known for his international cricketing prowess, will stick with his IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), prior to the 2024 IPL auction. He sat out during the previous IPL manner due to a physical setback.
In his role as IPL captain, Iyer clinched 27 victories across 55 contests, boasting a win ratio of 49.09%. Last season, Nitish Rana took the reins of the Knight Riders but they unfortunately didn’t reach the playoffs. In the end, the team from Kolkata secured a lowly seventh place. Their tally? Just six wins from 14 games.
