Shikhar Dhawan, a seasoned Indian opener, is not a member of India’s World Cup team for 2023. The event started on Thursday, but despite this, he still wished his comrades well.
Dhawan expressed his optimism that Team India will bring the trophy home with the following post on X:
Shikhar Dhawan’s Amazing Performance in ODI World Cups
Shikhar Dhawan was regarded as India’s ICC hero in his heyday. He got off to a fast start by taking home the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy Golden Bat for scoring the most runs.
In his World Cup career, he played a total of 10 ODI games spread across two tournaments. In those matches, he scored an impressive 537 runs with an average of 53.7 and achieved three centuries. Unfortunately, his participation in the 2019 World Cup was cut short due to a thumb injury sustained during a match against Australia at The Oval. Dhawan’s absence was considered one of the major factors contributing to India’s inability to secure victory in that tournament.
The inexperienced player overtook the seasoned opener thanks to Shubman Gill’s remarkable development. The double hundred by Ishan Kishan against Bangladesh last year put Dhawan’s chances of competing in the 2023 World Cup beyond repair.
While Gill is in fantastic form, having amassed 1230 ODI runs and five ODI hundreds so far this year, he has a monumental challenge in stepping into Dhawan’s enormous shoes for India in ICC competitions.
