Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Shamar Joseph did not receive the needed help from his fielders during his team’s IPL 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 14.
Joseph should have had opener Phil Salt as his first IPL wicket, but Arshad Khan’s sloppy fielding forced the West Indian quick to wait longer for his first breakthrough in the competition.
Salt received a solid length delivery from Shamar Joseph to the leg side but was pressed for pace. Arshad should have had a straightforward catch at deep square leg. However, the fielder not only made a meal of it, but also parried it over the fence for a six, exacerbating LSG’s situation.
Here’s video of the dropped catch:
Phil Salt has rode his luck with a few near calls, but he has scored a vital half-century, putting KKR in pole position to win the match.
Shamar Joseph had a rough introduction to IPL
Following his exploits against Australia at the Gabba, many fans were delighted to see Shamar Joseph replace Mark Wood in the IPL. Many were anticipating how the West Indies speedster would fare in the showpiece competition.
However, Joseph’s debut was disastrous, conceding 22 runs in his first over. He was inconsistent with his line and length, bowling five wides and two no-balls. Arshad Khan’s tumble also demonstrated that Joseph did not have the best of luck.
Phil Salt and Shreyas Iyer combination has reduced the needed run rate to less than one run per ball, and LSG will need to do something special to avoid loss.
