Seasoned player Saurabh Tiwary is hanging up his cricket bat. This 34-year-old guy has his last match set in Jharkhand’s end-season game against Rajasthan. It’s part of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy currently underway.
Jharkhand’s season record? Not great. Just one single win and only 10 points from six matches, they’re not moving forward to the knockouts. Tiwary, however, is going out strong. He’s scored 158 runs across four games, averaging 39.50 per game, even bagging a century.
The southpaw made his Jharkhand debut at the age of 18 in 2006, and he has since played 115 first-class, 116 List-A, and 181 T20 games domestically.
At today’s press conference, Tiwary announced his departure from the sport by saying:
“It’s a little tough to bid farewell to this journey that I had started before my schooling. “But I’m also sure that this is the right time for this. I feel that if you’re not in the national team and IPL, it’s better to vacate a spot in the state side for a youngster. Youngsters are getting a lot of chances in our Test team so I’m making this decision.”

“It’s not like I’ve decided this only on the basis of my performances. You can see my record in Ranji and in the last domestic season. It’s always asked what I’m going to do next and for now I only know that cricket is the only thing I know so I’m going to be connected to the game. I got an offer from politics too but I haven’t thought about that.”

Saurabh Tiwary has almost 8,000 first-class runs at an average of 47.51, including 22 centuries. His List-A statistics are as outstanding, with nearly 4,000 runs at an average of 46.55 and a strike rate of 83.41.
The player was the key player for Indian winning team in Under-19 World Cup, 2008 in Malaysia.
A look at Saurabh Tiwary’s numbers in the IPL and International cricket
Saurabh Tiwary’s IPL journey was full of memorable times too. He was able to feature in some ODIs for the Indian side. Martin’s age was 34 when he was a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) team that was playing in the IPL from 2008 till 2010. After making only a few appearances in the previous two seasons, Tiwary broke through in 2010, collecting 419 runs with a strike rate of 135.59 as the club advanced to the finals.
The Bihar-born batter played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2013, and the Delhi Capitals in 2014 and 2015. It was followed by a single season with the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016, before returning to MI for two seasons from 2017 to 2018 and 2020 to 2021.
However, Tiwary remained inconsistent following the 2010 season before finishing strong in 2021, averaging 57.50 in five games.
Overall, the southpaw appeared in 93 IPL games, scoring 1,494 runs at an average of 28.73 and a strike rate of 120.10.
Saurabh Tiwary made his India debut in 2010 and appeared in three One-Day Internationals that year, hitting 49 runs and without getting dismissed once.
