The inform batter was caught at point in the middle overs of the contest at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday May 15.
Following Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ejection, Samson was forced to bat from the first over. The wicketkeeper-batter got off to a good start, hitting three boundaries in his first eight balls at the crease, but he struggled in the second part of his innings. Debutant Tom Kohler-Cadmore also had little impact on the opposite end, with RR scoring only 38 runs in the powerplay.
Nathan Ellis, in his debut match of the season, bowled a tight first over before being given the ball again after the powerplay. After barely allowing a few runs in the first part of the over, the right-arm pacer delivered a slower bouncer.
Sanju Samson attempted to move over the off-side infield after spotting the width, but was fooled by the lack of speed. He jumped full length to get the swing off his bat, but it went to Rahul Chahar at point, reducing RR to 40/2 after 6.4 overs.
