On Wednesday, April 12th, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a thrilling victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. RR batted first and posted 175/8 on the board, while CSK was restricted to 172/6. With 21 runs required off the last over bowled by pacer Sandeep Sharma, the RR man went off to a shaky start, giving away two wides and two sixes. However, he quickly recovered before eventually helping his team secure a memorable win with tight bowling in the remaining balls. Sandeep Sharma’s newborn daughter was also seen following the action!
A video of her watching her father’s match on TV has gone viral.
After the game’s conclusion, Sandeep Sharma praised Chennai Super Kings leader Dhoni on Twitter for his 200th time leading the team in the IPL on Wednesday. He posted:
Dhoni scored an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls, with one four and three sixes, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for the victory.
“I wanted to keep it away from his reach”: Sandeep Sharma
After ensuring his team’s success against CSK, Sharma said his plan was to deliver yorkers in the high stake final over. He stated:
“I wanted to deliver yorkers in the last over. I was bowling good yorkers in the nets. The leg side was big, but I missed my mark and bowled a couple of low full-tosses, and both went for sixes. Then I changed my angle, and it worked. I bowled over the wicket to Jadeja, and I wanted to keep it away from his reach.”
At the IPL 2023 auction, the 29-year-old medium pacer went unsold. However, Rajasthan Royals took a chance on him to replace the injured Prasidh Krishna and purchased him at his base price of ₹50 lakhs.
