“Records are meant to be broken” – Sunil Gavaskar on Shubman Gill breaking Virat Kohli’s 973-run tally
Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricketer, believes Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill may beat Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a single season in the final against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.
Kohli scored 973 runs, including four hundred, in the 2016 IPL season, propelling the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the final.
Gill has 851 runs before the final and will need to be at his best to come close to breaking Kohli’s batting record.
In interview with India Today, Gavaskar stated:
Regardless, Gill will end the season as one of just four hitters in IPL history to score 800 runs. He also has the highest individual score in an IPL playoff game, striking 129 off 60 balls against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.
