On Sunday, October 29, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma took full advantage of his great vein of form in the 2023 World Cup game against England in Lucknow. Despite failing to reach his seventh World Cup century, Rohit managed to score 87 from 101 balls on a difficult pitch.
The Men in Blue had a difficult start, losing their first three wickets in rapid succession. On the other hand, Rohit seemed to be on track to get his hundred after adjusting to the circumstances rather effectively. He misplayed a slog, though, and it ended up in the clutches of the deep mid-wicket.
Fans on X were sad that Rohit Sharma could not reach his century. They did, however, compliment the Indian skipper for his knock, particularly given the pitch and the match scenario.
Here are a few of the responses:
Rohit Sharma Holds India’s Innings Together with a Solid Knock
Despite losing the toss, India got what they wanted when England chose to bat first. However, the pitch in Lucknow was not as simple as it appeared, and the hitters were understandably frustrated.
Shubman Gill failed to get going and was cleaned out by Chris Woakes’ superb delivery. Virat Kohli was removed for an 8-ball duck after succumbing to the strain of dot balls.
KL Rahul then joined forces with Rohit Sharma, and the pair just secured India’s innings with a vital 91-run partnership. Rahul and Rohit will both reflect on their shot selection and ponder if it was necessary in that scenario.
Suryakumar Yadav, however, produced a critical 49 down the order, and India’s tail wagged to lead them to 229/9 in 50 overs. The hosts will need early wickets to make a contest of it, since the pitch may improve for batting under lights.
