Former cricketer S Sreesanth praised Team India captain Rohit Sharma for his superb knock on a difficult surface in the 2023 World Cup match against England on Sunday in Lucknow.
Sreesanth believes that Sharma’s form would be critical for Team India, considering that the opening batter has showed a lot of promise at the top. Sreesanth stated regarding the ace batter’s performance in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda:
Even though Rohit Sharma couldn’t secure his much-earned hundred, Sreesanth pointed out that the team’s victory holds more value than individual achievements. He further stated:
Under pressure, Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock against England. His 87-run knock contributed to India’s battling total of 229. The team eventually won by a score of 100 runs after bundling out the reigning champions for 129 runs.
“Whether India finish first or fourth, it doesn’t matter” – Gautam Gambhir on Rohit Sharma and company being table-toppers
Team India are currently the only unbeaten team of the 2023 World Cup. With six wins from as many outings, they are comfortably placed at the top of the point table.
Gautam Gambhir highlighted that the side’s confidence will get a significant boost with how they have dominated the opposition. However, he suggested that the table-topper tag won’t hold much importance towards the business end of the marquee tournament.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, he explained:
On Thursday, November 2, Rohit Sharma’s team is set to play. They’ll face Sri Lanka. This big match will happen at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
