Robin Uthappa Picks Between Gill and Gaikwad: India has a pool of talents in cricket and is one of the best at producing world-class cricketers. As veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli seek the end of their careers, India is in the lab experimenting with the potential replacement for the stars. There are plenty of youngsters on the list, but two of the most prominent are Shubhman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Both players lead top franchises in the IPL, with Ruturaj taking over the baton of the Chennai Super Kings from MS Dhoni and Gill taking charge of the Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya left. Ruturaj had a better tournament with the bat and, comparatively, in the captaincy too. But the player doesn’t get picked for the national team often. But Gill wears the vice captain’s shirt for Team India.
Robin Uthappa Picks Between Gill and Gaikwad
While the fans online are having their fair share of debate on social media, former cricketer Robin Uthappa was asked whom he would pick between the two batters. Uthappa thinks both batters can be played in the same XI, as both are exceptional talents. While Ruturaj has better consistency, ‘Gill offers valuable versatility’.
Uthappa was talking on Sony Sports.
“Both Ruturaj and Shubman Gill are terrific batters who have impressed everyone with their games. While Ruturaj may be slightly more consistent statistically, Shubman Gill offers valuable versatility, blending touch and power in his game. Ultimately, it’s a tough choice between the two, as they are both undeniably talented players who could significantly benefit the team.”
“Given that both players are skilled in all formats, I believe India should field them both. It’s a tough choice, but ideally, they should be able to pick both players in the lineup.”
It was a shocker that despite having an average of 39.56 and scoring 663 runs in 20 T20I games, which is far superior to Gill’s statistics (539 runs at an average of 29.94 in 20 T20I innings), Ruturaj Gaikwad has been excluded from India’s both the T20I and ODI squads against Sri Lanka.
The 27-year-old CSK captain is expected to be picked soon in the future.
