Ahead of their IPL 2023 opener at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday, April 1, Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant was full of joy as he reacted with great enthusiasm to the new Impact Player rule. DC asked fans to pick the team’s playing XI via a tweet post, and the wicketkeeper-batter enjoyed it immensely! DC captioned the post:
Unfortunately, Rishabh Pant is ruled out of the 2023 Indian Premier League due to an injury he sustained in a car accident late last year. Despite the accident’s severity, Rishabh Pant is progressing in his recovery and is currently receiving rehabilitation. In order to make the season more exciting, the IPL has brought in a new ‘Impact Player’ rule. Captains can now list five substitute players – in addition to the usual XI – that they can use to replace any one of their players during the match. This Impact Player will surely provide more entertainment during the IPL.
Abhishek Porel replaces the injured Rishabh Pant
The Delhi Capitals have announced the addition of Bengal’s Abishak Porel to their squad in place of the injured Rishabh Pant for IPL 2023. David Warner will now captain the Delhi-based franchise in place of Pant, with all-rounder Axar Patel as his deputy. Porel holds a base price of ₹20 lakhs and has played 16 first-class games, three T20s, and three List-A games.
