The wicket-keeper batsman has struggled to keep things in line amidst rising constraints on overall playing time. To make matters worse, the mishandling results in an in-field penalty, requiring one fielder to be summoned up from the deep to the circle.

Even in IPL 2022, when he was still a young captain, he was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a sluggish over rate in DC’s six-wicket loss to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In Pant’s absence, DC would most likely turn to Axar Patel as captain. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner are legitimate leaders in the group, but both are presently out with injuries. Warner managed DC during the 2023 season as well.
