CSK’s tactic of sending Ravindra Jadeja to bat fourth versus PBKS did not bear fruit as the left-hander got out for just 2 (4) in the IPL 2024 game at Chepauk on Wednesday, May 1.
Chennai elevated Jadeja to No. 4 after losing Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube on consecutive deliveries, perhaps to offset the possibility of the ball turning in from Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar.
However, in an attempt to move a ball from Rahul to the leg side, Ravindra Jadeja absolutely missed it and was stranded in front. Here is the video of the dismissal:
Jadeja immediately saw that it was plumb and began walking back to the pavilion. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ran over to the all-rounder and convinced him to take a review. While Jadeja agreed, the DRS displayed three reds, indicating that the Chennai Super Kings had exhausted all of their reviews.
CSK need Ruturaj Gaikwad to bat deep and get to a competitive total
CSK lost the toss yet again and were forced to bat first in conditions suited to ball gripping. Despite a strong start from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane, Harpreet Brar’s double strike of Rahane and Dube provided PBKS with the necessary dominance.
Rahul Chahar quickly took Ravindra Jadeja’s wicket, and Gaikwad had to dig deep with impact replacement Sameer Rizvi. The pair stabilized the innings, but they needed to lift the ante. While Rizvi was removed for attempting to do so, Gaikwad remains at the crease.
Chennai will hope that their skipper can carry his bat, allowing Moeen Ali to put everything at it. The hosts also have the legendary MS Dhoni to provide those crucial runs in the end.
