MS Dhoni, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, was spotted rolling his arms with the ball before of his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday at Chepauk.

The official IPL Twitter account tweeted a video of MS Dhoni bowling. They captioned their post:

“Another addition to @ChennaiIPL’s bowling lineup for tonight? Which way is the ball turning.”

MS Dhoni has not bowled in the cash-rich league since the debut season in 2008. However, the right-arm medium bowler has just taken one wicket in his stellar international career.

MS Dhoni bowled West Indies hitter Travis Dowlin at the 2009 Champions Trophy in Johannesburg. He had also dismissed Kevin Pietersen of England in a 2011 Test match at Lord’s, but the caught-behind verdict was reversed.

Regarding IPL affairs, MS Dhoni re­signed his leadership role­ prior to 2024’s season commenceme­nt. This decision followed Super Kings’ triumphant capture­ of their fifth title in the lucrative­ league during the pre­ceding year. The 42-ye­ar-old veteran holds the re­cord for most victories as captain in this T20 competition.

The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper-batsman is playing simply as a player for the first time since 2022, when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja led CSK through the first eight games before turning up the captaincy to MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings are presently leading the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing match on Tuesday. Rachin Ravindra and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad got off to a good start, putting up 62 runs for the first wicket. Ravindra scored 46 runs off 20 balls, including three sixes and six boundaries. Gaikwad scored 46 runs off 36 deliveries, including one six and five boundaries.

CSK were 161/3 after 15.5 overs, with Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell at the crease. The final hitter to be removed was Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 12 runs per delivery. He was stumped by Wriddhiman Saha off Sai Kishore’s bowling.
