On Monday, April 8, in the 2024 IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Tushar Deshpande secured the first wicket. Dismissing Phil Salt on the very first delivery, leaving KKR’s opener with a golden duck.
Phil Salt started the batting with Sunil Narine after CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chose to bowl first.
Deshpande started the game with a back-of-the-length delivery, which Salt attempted to hit over the off-side infield with powerful hands. Instead of hitting the middle of the bat, the ball made contact with the outer half, causing it to be sliced toward the backward point. Ravindra Jadeja, who was stationed there as usual during the powerplay, leaped full length to complete the catch and help CSK get off to a great start.

Phil Salt Registers Three Golden Ducks in 12 IPL Innings
Salt’s dismissal against dismissal is not the first time he has achieved a golden duck in the IPL. The Englishman was looking for a golden duck in only his second outing in the league, which took place in 2023 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was responsible for his removal at the time.
Just one appearance later, Mohammed Shami grabbed his wicket in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, giving him his second golden duck.
After suffering an extraordinary early setback, KKR is attempting to recover. Tushar Deshpande’s opening over gave only one run, but Raghuvanshi and Narine quickly began dealing with boundaries. Shardul Thakur has entered the bowling assault, and KKR’s score is 26-1 after three overs.
