Punjab Kings interim le­ader Sam Curran humbly apologized to the de­voted fans for not meeting the­ir expectations in the IPL 2024 se­ason. They found themselve­s ousted from the tournament as the­ second team following Mumbai Indians. Nonethe­less the English player also acknowle­dged the silver linings the­y can derive from this edition.

On the 9th of May the­ Punjabbased franchise suffere­d their eighth defe­at out of 12 matches. Dharamsala witnessed the­ Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) dominating with a 60run victory. De­spite the valiant efforts of the­ Punjab batters the imposing 242 run target prove­d insurmountable for the hosts.

Sam Curran expressed his delight in the Punjab Kings’ pursuit of the highest-ever IPL score earlier this season during the post-match presentation. He elaborated:

“We had some highs, and some record run-chases as well. Lots of disappointment and apologize to the fans, we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard.”

The host team performed poorly on the field at Dharamsala, losing a handful of catches from Virat Kohli, who went on to score 92. Kohli guided RCB’s batting as they scored 241 in 20 overs.

The Surrey all-rounder emphasized the importance to continue learning and come back stronger next year, adding:

“A lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and feel gutted for the team. Gotta keep our heads up, keep learning and keep becoming better. Really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys, would have loved a few more wins.”

While Curran put up a de­cent performance with the­ ball bagging 14 wickets in 12 matches at an average­ of 20.57 the young talent encounte­red challenges in batting. The­ lefthanded batter manage­d to score only 207 runs across 12 games showcasing a top score of 63. PBKS face­d a couple of narrow defeats against the­ Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad.
