India will face Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, starting on November 22. The 5-match series is known by the names of former Australia and India legends Alan Border and Sunil Gavaskar.
The series is one of the most important ones for both countries, not only in terms of WTC ranking but also due to the matter of pride.
India have won the series the last two times, and it’s critical for Australia to win this one as the match is happening on their soil. This makes it a bit difficult for visitors, as the pace-rich Australian pitches might trouble them.
But again, India, unlike the historical weakness in pace, is no more a bowling-deficit team. The pace sensations like Jasprit Bumrah and Muhammed Shami would create a lot of problems for the Australian batters.
The selection of India’s squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy will also heavily depend on the upcoming red-ball series against Bangladesh and the ongoing Duleep Trophy. The Bangladesh series will start on September 19.
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Muhammed Shami, India will have other strong options like Muhammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh for the slot of a third pacer.
Paras Mhambrey Picks An Important Bowler for BGT
But former Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has someone else to suggest. Paras picks Prasidh Krishna for the role.
According to Paras, Bounce will play an important role in the Australian pitches, and Prasidh Krishna is a good fit for that. He wants the player to perform well in the Duleep Trophy and get his chance to get picked against Australia.
“Kookaburra is a different ball and you need to make full use of it in the early 30-35 overs as that is when you can pick wickets. You will have to look for the bowlers who can do that task for the team.”
“Bounce will play a big role, and this is where I see Prasidh Krishna playing an important role. I want him to perform well in the Duleep Trophy and then you have a third pacer ready. When the ball gets 30-35 overs old in Australia, you should have a bowler, who have something different and the bounce is something you can also rely on.”
