Nitish Reddy Better Batter than Hardik Pandya: Former cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar said that the young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is a better batter than Hardik Pandya. Gavaskar wrote it in his column in Sportster.
Nitish Kumar Reddy has been India’s second-most run-getter in the ongoing India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy with 294 runs. This includes a terrific century of 114 (189) in the first innings of the MCG Test.
Nitish Reddy Better Batter than Hardik Pandya, Says Gavaskar
Gavaskar lauded the century performance of Reddy at Melbourne when the team was struggling. According to the former India player, Nitish Reddy bats better than Hardik Pandya but has to do some work with his bowling.
“When India was looking down the barrel, he came through the fire with an outstanding century that has cemented his place in the team for a long time to come. Ever since the unavailability of Hardik Pandya for Test cricket, India has been looking for an all-rounder who can bowl medium pace and bat as well. Reddy’s bowling is still a work in progress, but as a batter, he is definitely better than Pandya was around the same time.”
Gavaskar also claimed that Nitish Kumar Reddy is one of the country’s brightest young stars.
“The Melbourne Test brought to the fore one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket, Nitish Kumar Reddy. He came to the attention of Indian cricket fans with his performances for the Hyderabad franchise in the IPL, and while he had not done much at the first-class level, it’s a credit to Ajit Agarkar and his fellow selectors to have seen enough to pitchfork him into the Test arena.
Gavaskar also lauded Nitish Kumar Reddy’s ability to judge the game according to different situations.
“In his debut Test match in Perth itself, it became evident that here was a cricketer who could read situations and play accordingly. With every subsequent Test match, that impression of a good ‘cricketing head’ on his shoulders began to get stronger and stronger,” he added.
India lost 2 of the 4 Tests played against Australia in the BGT 2024-25 and are trailing 1-2. The visitors will try to win the gift and final Test in Sydney and tie the series.
