The Mumbai Indians (MI) have earned global recognition as perhaps the best franchise at scouting talented players, thanks to the number of exceptional cricketers they have introduced on the grandest stages.

Another shining star in their ranks is left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque, who has been wreaking havoc in the WPL 2023 by taking wickets relentlessly. She has claimed nine scalps in just three games and currently holds the coveted Purple Cap.

MI’s scouting prowess has also unveiled some obscure young talents in the IPL, such as Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, and Rahul Chahar, who have burst onto the scene and demonstrated the franchise’s exceptional scouting abilities.

In light of this, let us look at three-star players that the Mumbai Indians have scouted.

1. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was an unknown talent when MI signed him for just INR 1 lakh in IPL 2015. His performances brought him into the spotlight, and he became an integral part of Mumbai Indians’ ‘engine room’ alongside Pollard and Krunal Pandya. Hardik became one of the world’s most fearsome hitters and a reliable utility bowler. He went on to captain the Gujarat Titans to an IPL title and now leads India’s T20I team, proving his maturity as a player and leader.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 and became a superstar quickly. He rose from Lasith Malinga’s shadow and became a top T20 and all-format bowler. He played only a few IPL games before making his India debut, showing his impact. Unfortunately, he’s currently injured and undergoing surgery, leaving Mumbai Indians without his services in IPL 2023. India is hopeful he recovers in time for the ODI World Cup.

3. Marco Jansen

MI scouted Marco Jansen during IPL 2021 auction, and he showed promise despite playing a few games. He became an overnight sensation after his impressive Test series against India. His all-around performance in the SA20 season proved his white-ball potential, silencing critics. Jansen is now a regular for the Proteas, and MI deserves credit for spotting his potential early on.
