A few Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players recently attended a social function during the current 2024 Indian Premier League. Rachin Ravindra, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and former captain MS Dhoni all enjoyed themselves at the occasion.
Rachin fumbled a critical catch in CSK’s latest match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), but he made amends by successfully completing three catches. The first batter was all over the field, very literally.
He sprinted from extra cover to cover and made an incredible grab to eliminate Azmatullah Omarzai. Next, he grabbed Rashid Khan at deep square leg and then dismissed Rahul Tewatia with a straightforward catch on the long-off boundary.
The anchor at CSK’s event brought up Rachin’s lost catch, asking the CSK opener if he glanced to MS Dhoni after missing it and if the wicketkeeper-batsman told him anything.
MS Dhoni quickly spoke up, saying:
“There’s a new captain huh.”
Everyone at the occasion laughed when the anchor mentioned that watching MS Dhoni as captain was a “muscle memory”.
In response to the anchor’s question, MS Dhoni further stated:
“It’s there but I’m not somebody who reacts a lot, especially at somebody who is playing their first or second game. So yeah. And I think Rutu (Ruturaj Gaikwad) is quite the same. But it was fun to watch him (Rachin) move all around like 360 (degrees) he was everywhere, felt like he was dancing.”

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad makes it two wins in a row
Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Titans, too. After the first win as skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad led Chennai for another victory. They defeated Shubman Gill’s team. Chennai are champions five times over. Two wins in this IPL so far.
In a replay of last year’s final, CSK’s hitters took advantage of the pitch’s opportunity and scored 206 runs while batting first. Gaikwad and Rachin got the team off to a good start, and the middle-order bats followed suit.
GT started well in the second essay, but Deepak Chahar gave the home side a key breakthrough by dismissing openers Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. The wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, and GT concluded with 143 runs in 20 overs, losing by 63 runs.
The victory marked Gaikwad’s second as CSK captain and propelled the reigning champions to the top of the points standings. CSK will play Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next IPL match on Sunday, March 31 at Visakhapatnam.
