Matheesha Pathirana of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowled a one-handed blinder to remove David Warner in the current IPL 2024 match against the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam. MS Dhoni praised the Sri Lankan cricketer’s performance, which sent Warner packing for 52 off 35 deliveries and ended a 93-run partnership with Prithvi Shaw.
Mustafizur Rahman, the left-arm seamer, bowled the tenth over of the innings and was dismissed. Warner attempted a reverse scoop but failed to get the ball past the defender at short-third. The 21-year-old launched himself to his right, clutching the ball despite his arm bouncing on the pitch. MS Dhoni couldn’t help but appreciate the beauty.
Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bat first, making two changes: Ishant Sharma and Prithvi Shaw replaced Kuldeep Yadav and Ricky Bhui.
The Super Kings stayed intact following their overwhelming victory against the Gujarat Titans. Warner and Shaw dominated the opening powerplay, scoring 62 runs. The former achieved his half-century in just 32 balls, laying the groundwork for the Capitals’ impressive total.
Matheesha Pathirana played his first match of IPL 2024 against the Gujarat Titans
Matheesha Pathirana, a pivotal force in the Super Kings’ triumph last year, couldn’t play their opening game versus the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chepauk. Yet, the fast bowler made a comeback for their next home clash with Gujarat Titans.
Powered by Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shivam Dube’s exploits, the Super Kings posted a daunting 206/6. Then, their bowlers joined the party. Though Matheesha Pathirana claimed one, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, and Mustafizur Rahman bagged two each to seal a 63-run victory.
