In Cape Town on Wednesday, January 3, during Day 1’s first session of the second Test between India and South Africa, Mohammed Siraj shone. The quick bowler managed to send Aiden Markram and team captain Dean Elgar, the opening batsmen, back to the pavilion. This gave India some early successes.
After choosing to bat first against the visitors, Mohammed Siraj added further agony for the Proteas by having Tony de Zorzi caught behind for his third wicket, bringing the total down to 15/4 (Bumrah grabbed the other wicket).
Zorzi was removed from the game in the tenth over of South Africa’s opening innings. Zorzi attempted to glance down the fine leg when Mohammed Siraj bowled a fuller-length ball on the pads, but he got an edge instead. The hosts were reduced to 15/4 after wicketkeeper KL Rahul completed the catch by moving to his right.

Team South Africa’s leader, Dean Elgar, chose to bat initially against India on a pitch favoring the bowlers in Test two. This move didn’t pan out. The Proteas had early losses. Aiden Markram was the first casualty, Jaiswal at third slip caught him out.
After hitting 185 in the opening Test, which the Proteas won by an innings and 32 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, Siraj subsequently claimed the much coveted scalp of captain Elgar.
Alongside Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah also removed rookie Tristan Stubbs, who was caught at short leg by India captain Rohit Sharma.
After 11.4 overs, South Africa was 25/4 at the time of writing, with David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne at the crease.
To prevent suffering another series loss in South Africa, the visitors need to win the current Test.
