On Wednesday, January 3, in the second Test between India and South Africa, Mohammed Siraj profoundly impacted the game. He claimed five wickets in the first session at Cape Town’s Newlands.

This fast bowler wreaked havoc on South Africa’s lead players. He led to the dismissal of Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, and team captain Dean Elgar. Elgar was a significant target after scoring 185 in the initial Test.

Siraj, only 29 years old, finished his five-wicket blow with consecutive dismissals of David Bedingham and Marco Jansen in over 16. This achievement marks his third in Test cricket, following similar feats in the Australian and West Indian series.

Siraj delivered a peach of a delivery to dismiss Bedingham. As the batsman came forward to defend, he delivered a decent length ball around off stump. The ball shot up off the bat towards Yashasvi Jaiswal in the slip cordon, spitting at him.

Marco Jansen, who had amassed an undefeated 84 in the opening Test, was subsequently removed by the pacer. KL Rahul, the wicketkeeper, caught the right-hand batsman behind.

In addition to Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah also removed rookie Tristan Stubbs, who was caught at short leg by India captain Rohit Sharma. In the meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar won his first over by dismissing Keshav Maharaj.
