The Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged victorious against the Mumbai Indians with a 55-run win at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This victory propelled the Titans to second place in the IPL standings, while the Mumbai Indians fell to seventh.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, MI gave the Titans the chance to bat first. Shubman Gill’s impressive half-century (56 runs off 34 balls) set the tone for the Titans’ strong performance. Although MI seemed to be doing well up until the 13th over, with the Titans score at 103/4, things unraveled for them in the final seven overs, as they conceded a whopping 104 runs. Abhinav Manohar (42 runs off 21 balls), Rahul Tewatia (20 runs off 5 balls), and David Miller (46 runs off 22 balls) all contributed with some hard-hitting performances to help the Titans achieve a total of 207/6.
In their chase, MI were never really in the game, as they were limited to 59/5 in 10.4 overs while attempting to chase the large target. Although Nehal Wadhera, Suryakumar Yadav, and Piyush Chawla managed to contribute some late runs, it was not enough to make a difference. At the end of the innings, MI could only score 152 runs while losing nine wickets, well below the Titans’ total. The Titans’ middle order, which has been consistent throughout the tournament, played a significant role in their victory.
As for instances when David Miller and Rahul Tewatia provided big finishes for the Titans, three notable examples come to mind.
GT vs RCB, IPL 2022
The Titans had a challenging target of 171 to chase and found themselves in trouble at 95/4 in 12.5 overs. With 75 runs needed off just 43 balls, the onus was on Rahul Tewatia and David Miller to steer the Titans to victory, and they delivered in style.
Miller’s unbeaten 39 off 23 balls and Tewatia’s unbeaten 43 off 25 balls included several boundaries and prevented RCB from making any further breakthroughs. As a result, the Titans chased down the RCB total with three balls and six wickets to spare.
GT vs PBKS, IPL 2022
One of the most unforgettable partnerships between David Miller and Rahul Tewatia happened in a match against PBKS at the Brabourne Stadium. The Titans were chasing a target of 190 and needed 19 runs off the final over. After an opening wide, skipper Hardik Pandya was run-out while attempting a bye, leaving Tewatia to take charge.
With 17 runs to get off 4 balls, Miller smashed a boundary and added a single with the aid of an overthrow. Gujarat required 12 runs off the last 2 balls, and Tewatia showed his brilliance by hitting two consecutive sixes, much like M.S. Dhoni, to carry his team to a stunning victory.
GT vs MI, IPL 2023
During the match held on April 25th, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia batted together to score 33 runs in a mere 10 balls, hitting 5 sixes in total. In his trademark style, Tewatia played a flashy and exciting cameo of 20 runs off 5 balls, including three sixes. On the other hand, Miller was in a punishing form during the death overs, as he smashed the MI bowlers for 46 runs off 22 balls. Though he missed his half-century by a mere four runs, Miller’s aggressive batting helped Gujarat post a formidable total on the scoreboard.
