Yashasvi Jaiswal’s disastrous start to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season continued on Wednesday, as he was removed for 24 runs off 19 deliveries against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a good start in the powerplay after Shubman Gill sent Rajasthan into bat first. The left-handed batsman smashed boundaries at will against GT’s new ball bowlers, Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav.
Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his sixth boundary to start the penultimate over of the powerplay. He then attempted a scoop shot off Umesh Yadav on the following ball, which proved to be his doom. The boy bent low to shoot over the goalkeeper’s head. However, the ball landed pretty high on Jaiswal’s bat, almost on his shoulder near the handle.
Despite the bad contact, the velocity appeared to be enough to carry it over the wicketkeeper. However, Matthew Wade timed his jump perfectly to make a great catch and give GT their first breakthrough of the game.

The current match is Matthew Wade’s first of the season, and his first in the IPL since the 2022 final. Shubman Gill made two changes, removing Kane Williamson and B Sharath in favour of the veteran wicketkeeper and Abhinav Manohar.
Wade had the opportunity to reduce RR to 42/3 to end the powerplay, but he was unable to hang onto a difficult chance after Riyan Parag snatched a pass from Rashid Khan.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Struggles to Surpass 24-Run Mark in IPL 2024
Jaiswal kicked off the 2024 IPL season with a modest 24-run innings versus Lucknow SupeÂr Giants. However, his performance dwindled, netting mereÂly 15 runs across the following three matcheÂs.
This lackluster start contrasts sharply with Jaiswal’s outstanding recent form. He had a breakout IPL campaign in 2023 and consistently scored for India since then, making his current struggles uneÂxpected.
Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag are presently at the crease, taking on GT’s wrist spin tandem, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad. The score is 49/2 after seven overs in the first innings.
