According to ESPNcricinfo, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ace foreign fast Matheesha Pathirana will miss the start of the IPL 2024 season with a grade one hamstring injury.
Matheesha Pathirana hurt a muscle in his left leg during the second T20I against Bangladesh in Sylhet on March 6. He was observed gripping his leg while attempting to finish an over but eventually had to pull out and go away.
According to the report, he has not entered CSK’s camp and is presently undergoing rehabilitation with a Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) physio, who must give him the necessary permission to join the five-time champions’ team. He will almost probably miss CSK’s season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday.
IPL 2023 unearthed a gem: Matheesha Pathirana. He snared 19 wickets across 12 games, averaging an impressive 19.52. A staggering 18 of those fell in the death overs – the highest tally. Unsurprisingly, he emerged as MS Dhoni go-to slog-overs weapon.
Mustafizur Rahman could come in for Matheesha Pathirana
Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh’s top bowler, might face RCB at Chepauk Stadium. The left-arm bowler, noted for outfoxing hitters with his over-the-wicket angle and flexible wrists, suffered an injury scare during the third One-Day International against Sri Lanka on March 18.
He had cramping and needed to be stretchered out. However, he has healed and has joined CSK’s squad, where he will play his maiden match. Despite being a clever operator, ‘Fizz’ hasn’t had many full seasons in the IPL.
In 48 matches over four teams, he took 47 wickets at an average of 30.72. Like Matheesha Pathirana, he hopes Chepauk’s dry and grippy track favors his cutters and yorkers over the opposing pacers.
