Matheesha Pathirana had the last laugh on Sunday, dismissing Rishabh Pant in the last over of the Delhi Capitals’ innings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Rishabh Pant hammered the speedster for 18 runs, including one six and two boundaries, before being dismissed.
Matheesha Pathirana produced a yorker-length delivery on off-side, and Pant attempted to go underneath the ball but whacked it with his toe off the bat.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of the Super Kings, rushed from far off and made a terrific grab to throw back his comrade.

Rishabh Pant batted aggressively, scoring 51 runs off just 32 balls. He hit 3 huge sixes and 4 boundaries, a blistering knock. It marked Pant’s first fifty since his comeback after a lengthy 15-month gap. Previously, he had modest scores of 18 (13 balls) versus Punjab Kings and 28 (16) against Rajasthan Royals.

Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets, but the Delhi Capitals scored 191/5 against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL on Sunday.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw got the Capitals off to a flying start, putting up a 93-run partnership for the first wicket. Warner smacked 52 from 35 deliveries, including three sixes and five boundaries. Shaw scored 43 off 27, including two sixes and four boundaries.
Matheesha Pathirana concluded with remarkable stats of 3/31 for CSK. The Sri Lankan player also made an outstanding catch to eliminate Warner. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathiran took one wicket each.
The Super Kings will now try to make it a hat-trick of victories after defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans by six wickets and 63 runs, respectively.
The Delhi Capitals squad, captained by Rishabh Pant, remains winless. They suffered defeats against Punjab Kings by four wickets and Rajasthan Royals by 12 runs. Their mission is securing that elusive first victory.
