KL Rahul scored 66 runs off 107 deliveries in the World Cup final against Australia. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who was unimpressed with the right-handed batter’s approach, stated that Rahul could have showed more desire.

Gambhir suggested that had Rohit Sharma and company scored around 310, they would have been proclaimed world champions.

Gambhir told Sportskeeda in an exclusive interview:

“Virat Kohli has played a role of anchoring the innings, but the rest all should have been aggressive. KL (Rahul) should have gone. What harm would it have caused? We would have been 150 all out. But had we been brave, we could’ve scored 310 and India would have been world champions. This is not the 1990s. 240 is not a good score at all. You need 300-plus totals. India were not brave enough.”

Rahul has been rested for India’s forthcoming five-match home T20I series against Australia, which begins on November 23 in Visakhapatnam.
