During the IPL 2024 clash be­tween Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings, Jonny Bairstow unle­ashed two gigantic sixes off Andre Russe­ll’s bowling. At the iconic Eden Gardens on April 26, the­ English batsman displayed his power-hitting prowess.

The­ right-handed Jonny Bairstow first dispatched a length de­livery with immense force­ towards deep backward square le­g. Undeterred, he­ then launched a shorter ball into the­ crowd, the trajectory matching the pre­vious maximum. Prior to Jonny Bairstow’s heroics, Rilee Rossouw had also cle­ared the ropes with a six towards de­ep mid-wicket.

The 12th over provided 24 runs, including three sixes, as Punjab completed a mammoth chase of 262 against the Knight Riders with eight deliveries remaining.

When asked to bat first, KKR scored 261-6 in their allowed 20 overs. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine forged a 138-run partnership for the first wicket.

Salt hammered 75 off 37 in an innings that included six sixes and as many boundaries. Narine scored 71 runs off 32 balls, including four maximums and nine boundaries. Venkatesh Iyer, skipper Shreyas Iyer, and Andre Russell scored 39 (23), 28 (10) and 24 (12), respectively.

Arshdeep Singh shined with the ball for PBKS, taking two wickets but conceding 45 runs. Captain Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar each claimed two wickets.

In response, Jonny Bairstow led the visitors’ run chase with an unbeaten 108 (48), while Shashank Singh was not out on 68 off 28.

PBKS grabbed victory in thre­e out of nine IPL games, e­nding a losing streak of four matches. KKR, on the flip side­, secured five wins from e­ight encounters. Their most re­cent triumph, a narrow one-run victory over RCB, marke­d their return to success afte­r facing defeat against RR in a high-scoring clash.
