BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the ICC chairman unanimously on August 27. The BCCI chief will take charge with ICC on December 1. He will have to step down from his current role in BCCI.
Many cricketing personalities congratulated him on his new venture. Former Australian cricketer John Buchanan is one of them.
John Buchanan Congratulates Jay Shah
Buchanan opined that Jay Shah’s ‘great decision-making’ is essential for ICC. He also went on to say that it would be a good thing for the BCCI as well.
“Congratulations to him. It is wonderful from BCCI’s point of view to have him there. Cricket needs his great decision-making at the ICC level.
Buchanan also discussed the challenges that Jay Shah is going to face. One of them would be the rising p[popularity of T20 matches and franchise leagues. This has significantly reduced the attraction of One Day Internationals and the Red ball cricket. Maintaining equal priority to all three formats would be a major challenge for Jay Shah according to Buchanan.
“There have been talks of getting rid of ODIs in the age of popular T20Is, T20s, T10 competitions and matches. There are plenty of things that can entice quality players to play for a club rather than their country. I do not think this is healthy, representing your country is your highest privilege. I hope Shah will be able to work on it along with the ICC administration and make all three formats of the game equal in priority,” he added.
