Jofra Archer has set a modest target for himself ahead of the upcoming Ashes series in England. The 27-year-old pacer stated that he would be content if he managed to play in just one Test this summer. Archer recently made his international comeback in January 2023, having been out of action due to injury since 2021. He has so far played four ODIs and one T20I on the Bangladesh tour this year.

In anticipation of the second T20I versus Bangladesh, Jofra Archer reflected on his performance during the 2019 Ashes series, citing it as one of his best summers, and expressed his desire to assist England in retaining the urn this year. As per a quote in the Daily Mail, he said:

“If I can play one game this summer, I’ll be happy. If I play more than one, that’s just a bonus. I haven’t lost an Ashes series yet, so we can keep it that way. But nothing but great memories. Probably the best Test you’ll ever get to witness, let alone on TV but in person, so, now that summer is one of the best summers I’ve had.

During the 2019 Ashes series, Jofra Archer had a memorable performance as he replaced James Anderson from the second Test onwards. In four Test matches, he took 22 wickets at an average of 20.27, including two five-wicket hauls.

Jofra Archer discusses his fitness ahead of the upcoming cricket season.

Archer expressed doubts about his fitness for a whole Test match but is willing to give his all. His only uncertainty is whether he can endure an entire Test match. He acknowledged that there may still be some hesitation in his mind about his readiness. Nevertheless, he is determined to put those thoughts aside and take his chances. He is resigned that if he gets injured again, he can do nothing about it. The first Ashes Test commences on June 16th at Edgbaston in the United Kingdom.
