Logan van Been dismissed England batter Joe Root in an unusual manner during the continuing 2023 ODI World Cup league stage match against the Netherlands on Wednesday, November 8 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Joe Root, who had only made 29 runs in his previous five innings, appeared in good form and put on a solid second-wicket stand with Dawid Malan. The ace batter was trying to increase his scoring rate after hitting 28 runs off 34 pitches with a single boundary.
After the 20th over, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards reintroduced Logan van Beek into the assault. The pacer was costly in his maiden session, allowing 45 runs in four overs. He did, however, strike off the second delivery itself, bowling on a length and getting it to slightly come back into the right-handed hitter.
Joe Root didn’t pick the ideal delivery to go for the unconventional shot, as the ball found its way through the little gap between his legs and fell onto the stumps. Check out the dismissal right here:
The star hitter needs some runs to finish the 2023 ODI World Cup campaign on a high note. The hitter began with a couple of fifties against New Zealand and Bangladesh, but his form, like the rest of the squad, has taken a significant hit since then.
Netherlands Strike Back against England with couple of quick wickets including Joe Root
The Netherlands had little say in the proceedings as England won the toss and chose to bat first. While both teams are ninth and tenth in the points rankings, this meeting is far from a dead rubber, with a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy on the line.
After 20 overs, England was cruising at 132-1, but the Netherlands answered with the wickets of Joe Root and Dawid Malan to restore some parity. The initial hitter fell short of a century after falling short of his crease, bringing Harry Brook out to bat.
