Star pace Jasprit Bumrah got India off to a great start with the ball in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Bumrah dismissed opener Reeza Hendricks for four runs off five balls.
The ball was pitched at a nice length, and Hendricks positioned himself to play the line of delivery. However, it veered away and squared up the batter, striking the top of the off-stump.
Here’s the video of the dismissal:
Reeza Hendricks’ reaction to Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery was natural, given that he had little control over the situation. The Men in Blue secured an early wicket, which was critical in their 176/7 defense.
South Africa consolidate after early strikes from Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh dismissed Aiden Markram to cap off Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent start. The South African skipper edged it behind Rishabh Pant in an attempt to play a cover drive away from his body.
The Proteas needed someone to set the tone, and Tristan Stubbs has done that with the proper intent. Quinton de Kock has also begun to contribute from his end, and their partnership has surpassed 50 runs.
The spinners find themselves in a challenging situation devoid of support from the pitch. The Men in Blue are now tasked with breaking this partnership and introducing a new batter. South Africa on the contrary aims to prolong this collaboration as much as possible setting the stage for power hitters like Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller to make an impact.
South Africa’s left-hand-right-hand combo is becoming a test for skipper Rohit Sharma, and they are making good use of the breeze in their stroke play.
