In the 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Steve Smith was quickly dismissed for only four runs off nine deliveries on Sunday, November 19th.
Smith was dismissed in the seventh over of Australia’s run chase. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a fuller-length ball to the off-stump, and the hitter failed to get his bat on the ball before it struck the pads.
Smith seemed perplexed and approached his partner Travis Head about reconsidering the ruling, which was an unusual sight. Head told him not to squander the DRS, and the former Australian captain returned to the dressing room.
However, replays revealed that the collision occurred outside the stumps, and a DRS may have easily rescued Smith.
