The match everyone looked forward to was Jasprit Bumrah versus Rishabh Pant. It happened when Mumbai Indians played Delhi Capitals on April 27. Jasprit Bumrah won that contest between the bowler and batsman.
Rishabh Pant came into bat after the fall of the second wicket in the tenth over and scored 29 runs off 18 deliveries. However, Jasprit Bumrah delivered the 19th over and removed the DC captain with the second delivery following a wide first ball.
Rishabh Pant attempted to draw a slower, shorter delivery from MI’s ace bowler but was unable to do so, leaving Rohit Sharma with a straightforward catch in the deep backward square leg position.
Here is a video of the same:
Earlier in the innings, Rishabh Pant hit Jasprit Bumrah with a powerful flick for a maximum. However, it was the seventh time in T20s that the MI pacer removed the southpaw, with the batsman striking at less than 120.
The pair has had a fantastic run in IPL 2024, with Pant scoring 371 runs and Bumrah taking 14 wickets.
DC post a mammoth total against a hapless MI attack
MI’s bowling difficulties continued into the 2024 season, as the DC batsman achieved their highest-ever IPL total of 257/4 in 20 overs.
After being selected to bat first, DC starter Jake Fraser-McGurk hit a stunning 27-ball 84, including 11 boundaries and six maximums. The knock advanced the team to 114 in the eighth over, and he was finally removed.
The momentum continued with Shai Hope’s 17-ball 41 and Abishek Porel’s 27-ball 36. Finally, big-hitting Tristan Stubbs joined in, scoring a spectacular 48* off 25 balls.
Except for Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla, all other MI bowlers gave more than 10 runs per over, with Luke Wood and Hardik Pandya being the most costly. While the former conceded 68 in four overs, the later was dismissed for 41 in two overs.
With both clubs having five defeats in eight (MI) and nine (DC) games, respectively, the current match is critical to their playoff aspirations.
