Jasprit Bumrah Indias key figure once again rose to the occasion by dismissing the menacing Travis Head in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash. The Indian team was at a critical juncture seeking a breakthrough in the latter stages of the innings at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on Monday June 24.
Travis Head threatened to be a spoiler against India again as he spearheaded Australia’s run-chase effort in the must-win match. He produced a spirited half-century and was tasked with finishing the innings with the middle order. However, he felt the strain of the growing necessary rate and was paired against Jasprit Bumrah in the 17th over.
After Australia scored only a few runs off the first two deliveries, Travis Head had to go all out. The left-handed batsman was ready to face Jasprit Bumrah, but was fooled by a slower delivery measured at 127 kmph.
While attempting to hurl the delivery, the head twisted into an unusual position, and he could only manage the leading edge. The ball sailed straight to Rohit Sharma at cover, securing the important wicket. Look at the dismissal right here:
Travis Head left after scoring 76 runs off 43 deliveries, including nine fours and four sixes, for a strike rate of 176.74.
Team India closing in on victory after Head’s dismissal
Australia were reduced to 150-5 in the 17th over after Head was forced to leave. The Men in Blue increased their grip on the battle with the wickets of Tim David and Matthew Wade soon after to be well in the driving seat.
Jasprit Bumrah completed his bowling spell showcasing impressive stats of 129 from four overs. Currently Australia finds themselves in need of 29 runs in the last over with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc on the field. Arshdeep Singh has also fulfilled his bowling quota leaving captain Rohit Sharma to explore new bowling options for the conclusive over of the match.
Furthermore, India has qualified for the semi-final stage. The outcome is critical for Australia and Afghanistan, as they compete for the final position in the knockout round.
