James Anderson set a fresh record in Test cricket. He did this when he joined the match against India in Vizag, on Friday, February 2. This impressive England player is now the oldest pacer to play a Test match in India.
The current age of James Anderson is 41 years and 187 days. Before him, just one pacer who was over 40 played a Test on Indian soil. The person to do this was the former Indian player, Lala Amarnath. Lala did it against Pakistan in 1952.
Amarnath was 41 years and 92 days old when he played the Test against Pakistan. He maintained the record for 72 years, but in 2024, James Anderson became the oldest bowler to play a Test in India.
During the first day of play in Vizag, broadcasters showed a graphic depicting the top five oldest pacers to play a Test in India. A famous social media user posted a screenshot of the same on his profile. You may view the list here:
Aside from James Anderson and Lala Amarnath, the list included Ray Lindwall (38 years, 112 days), Shute Banerjee (37 years, 124 days), and Ghulam Guard (34 years, 20 days). Interestingly, all of the preceding pacers on this list played in contests before 1961.
James Anderson has troubled 3 generations of Indian cricket
James Anderson holds the record for most Test wickets by a visiting bowler on Indian soil. He has also tormented three generations of Indian players.
Anderson dismissed Sachin Tendulkar nine times during his active cricket career. Next, he developed a rivalry with Virat Kohli, taking his wicket on seven occasions. He is now tormenting Shubman Gill, the Prince of Indian cricket, with his velocity and accuracy.
Gill lost his wicket caught behind against Anderson earlier today. The experienced English bowler dismissed the young Indian hitter for the seventh time in his career.
