Mumbai Indians (MI) star quick Jasprit Bumrah eventually gave his team some respite against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2024 match on Monday, May 6, at the Wankhede Stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled a tight opening over in the powerplay, and the hosts’ plan to grant him another one paid off when he dismissed Abhishek Sharma. The southpaw succumbed to the traditional Test match line and length from the speedster around the wicket.
Abhishek Sharma was only able to generate a thick outside edge while playing away from his body, and Ishan Kishan timed his dive well to make a superb grab to his left with both gloves. Here’s Jasprit Bumrah video of the dismissal:
With multiple inside edges and near calls for the SRH openers in the powerplay, Mumbai needed a breakthrough to elevate their spirits, Jasprit Bumrah delivered with his 18th wicket of the tournament.
MI squeeze SRH with more wickets
Mumbai Indians would feel themselves unlucky not to have SRH two or three down on the powerplay. However, there was one controllable aspect that the hosts have yet to fully address.
Young Anshul Kambhoj impressed with his line and length in his IPL debut, finishing with numbers of 1/42. However, he may have fired Travis Head twice.
Kambhoj cleaned up Head with a superb delivery, but the teenager overreached, and his moment of brilliance turned into a disaster. Head was given another life by Kambhoj’s bowling, with Nuwan Thushara missing a regulation chance at third man.
Piyush Chawla finally broke the deadlock by returning the Australian left-hander and dismissing Heinrich Klaasen to give Hyderabad 96/5. Mumbai haven’t allowed the tournament’s most explosive batting line-up get away, and they’ll be looking to keep picking up wickets on a regular basis.
