Since the IPL’s start in 2008, batters have broken several records. We have the opportunity to see the top T20 players to compete in a high-quality competition.
Scoring 1,000 runs against a single team in the IPL shows how consistent the batter has been throughout time. Unsurprisingly, the players on this list are among the tournament’s leading run scorers.
On that point, here are five IPL players who have scored 1,000 runs against a single team:
1) David Warner – 1,075 runs vs KKR
David Warner has proved himself as one of the all-time greatest T20 batsmen. The left-handed Australian opener has scored 1,075 runs in 27 games against KKR, with an average of 44.23 and a strike rate of 145.27. Against the Knights, he has two centuries and six half-centuries.
Last season, Warner reached the milestone with a neat 42 off 26 deliveries. The greatest effort by the Delhi Capitals captain against the Knight Riders came during his time with SRH. In 2017, he hit a blistering 126 off 59 deliveries at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. His previous IPL century came against the franchise in 2010, when he was a member of the Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils).
2) Shikhar Dhawan – 1,057 runs vs CSK
Shikhar Dhawan is one of the league’s most consistent run scorers and has played for various IPL teams during his career. Dhawan has scored 1,057 runs in 29 matches against the CSK with an average of 44.04 and a strike rate of 131.79. Against the four-time IPL champions, he has one century and eight half-centuries.
Dhawan reached 1000 runs in his 28th innings against Chennai last year, smashing 88* off 59 deliveries at Wankhede Stadium. The southpaw’s finest performance against the Super Kings came in 2020, when he hit an unbeaten 101* off 58 balls at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
3) Rohit Sharma – 1,040 runs vs KKR
The Mumbai Indians captain is also on the list. Rohit Sharma is a vital part of the 5-time IPL champions since he joined in 2011. In 2009, he won a championship with the Deccan Chargers. The right-hander likes hitting against KKR, having scored 1,040 runs in 32 innings with an average of 41.60 and a strike rate of 130.16.
Against the Knight Riders, the Indian captain has one century and six half-centuries. He broke the 1000-run barrier in IPL 2021, scoring 33 runs off 30 balls. Sharma hit his only century in the league against KKR in 2012, scoring 109* off just 60 balls.
4) Virat Kohli – 1,030 runs v DC
Virat Kohli is the first batter in IPL history to score 7000 runs. In his 225th inning, he achieved the milestone. Against the Delhi Capitals, he also passed the 1,000-run mark during the innings. Kohli has 1,030 runs at an average of 51.50 and a strike rate of 133.76 in 27 innings against the Delhi franchise.
The right-handed hitter has hit ten half-centuries against them, with a high of 99 in 2013. On that particular day, he was run out on the final ball of the innings at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Earlier in the season, he scored a half-century off 34 balls against the same opposition.
5) David Warner – 1,005 runs vs PBKS
David Warner features twice on this list, showing his consistency in the IPL over the years. The Australian star’s record against the Punjab Kings is even more impressive: 1,005 runs in 23 innings at an average of 50.12 and a strike rate of 142.14, with 12 half-centuries.
Warner’s outstanding performance against PBKS was an undefeated 60 off 30 balls in 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium. He scored 1000 runs against the Kings that day, ensuring Delhi’s victory with 57 balls to spare.
