The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) amazed fans after their decisive victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This IPL 2024 Match 39 on April 23 saw LSG silence the Chepauk crowd. With this triumph, they’ve overtaken CSK in the points table.
CSK batted first and scored a good total of 210 runs. Their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, played very well and scored 108 runs in 60 balls without getting out. Shivam Dube also batted well, scoring 66 runs in 27 balls to help CSK reach a big score.
LSG started their pursuit on a shaky note, losing Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul in the first five overs. Marcus Stoinis, on the other hand, anchored the pursuit to perfection with a combination of touch and power.
Stoinis hit 13 boundaries and six maximums, totaling 124* off 63 at an impressive strike rate of 196.83.
On that point, here are three key milestones that were attained in the just finished CSK versus LSG match:
1. Losing joint-most matches defending 200+ targets
CSK’s inability to defend a huge total against LSG highlights a concerning trend for the squad. This was their seventh time failing to defend a target of more than 200 runs in IPL history.
They currently share an abysmal record with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament’s history.
2. First CSK captain to score an IPL hundred
Ruturaj Gaikwad was the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team. He played very well against Lucknow Super Giants. Gaikwad made fifty runs quickly. He scored fifty runs in just twenty-eight balls. This showed he wanted to score runs fast. After that, he kept scoring runs quickly. He made one hundred runs in only fifty-six balls. This was his second IPL century. Gaikwad’s excellent batting made history. He became the first Chennai Super Kings captain to score a century in IPL.
Ruturaj Gaikwad created history for Chennai Super Kings. He became CSK’s first captain to score a hundred runs. Earlier, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja led CSK. But, they did not hit a century while captaining.
3. Highest individual score while chasing in IPL history
Marcus Stoinis went out to bat early after Quinton de Kock got out. He played an amazing innings. Stoinis helped LSG win on his own. He hit big shots to all the CSK bowlers.
Stoinis scored the winning runs in the last over, and the match concluded with a total of 124* runs off 63 balls. This is the greatest individual score by a hitter while chasing in IPL history. Stoinis has eclipsed Paul Valthaty’s 120, which he also achieved against CSK in 2011.
Aside from that, Stoinis’ 124* is now the greatest individual score against CSK in the IPL. Virender Sehwag previously held the record, scoring 122 in an IPL playoff match in 2014.
